Tour 2011 : Is this adventure or nuts?
Tour 2011 was an adventure.
Not having ridden a motorcycle in 25 years, did no speak Spanish and cringed at the sight of a Jalapeño, I set out on a grueling 10,000 mile adventure through South America. The goal was to raise money to support Global Partners for Development with its successful community based learning program to champion girls’ education in East Africa that has the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of children.
My goal is to raise $25,000 to invest in educating 10,000* girls. So far, with your generous support we are 12% toward that goal. I will continue with other programs and tasks so that we can reach the goal of educating 10,000 girls. If you would still like to support the goal, please contact me on how to contribute. You can re-live the South American adventure in the el BloG section.
We would like to wish you the very best for 2012 and thank you for your support of girls education.

Tour 2011 Plan.
Not having ridden a motorcycle in 25 years, cannot speak Spanish and cringe at the sight of a Jalapeño, set out on a grueling 10,000 mile adventure through South America?
When I was reading about Ernest Shackleton and The Endurance (a gift from my wife) I would ask “why did he do it”? It's cold and wild, not to mention the element of danger. On my journey I will visit the place where they eventually arrived back on land to see if I can find some answers.
My journey begins in Buenos Aires in April, where I will ride until the road ends in Tierra del Fuego. From there I will ride north through Argentina, Chile, Argentina again, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador ending at the port of Cartagena on the Caribbean Sea in Colombia. I plan to arrive sometime in June. During the tour I will visit spectacular places and meet interesting people. The journey will cover more than 10,000 grueling miles, 1 mile for every girl we can educate!
Global Partners for Development will be launching a highly successful community based learning model* to champion girls’ education in East Africa that has the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of children. I would like us to raise $25,000 to invest in educating 10,000 girls. What an opportunity for us to do something great. Join me on the adventure here and on facebook and twitter.
Many, many thanks for any support!

(kindly forward to anyone who may be interested in supporting this project)
p.s. On the journey if we find worthy groups working for girls' education, using a similar strategy, we will endeavor to offer some assistance, assuming we meet our fundraising goals.
* Some of the key results include: 90% increase in enrollments of girls, significant increase in reading and math and the program's cost per child for one year of primary education was $2.50. (A. Lawrence Chickering, Rajasthan Project)
